The natural procession of time
It just keeps marching on
I went to sleep one night
cuddling a sweet smelling baby
I awoke the next morning
to a gangly legged little girl
Tiny pigtails exchanged for long braids
Endless games of peek-a-boo traded for sleepovers at Susie Q's
Time's not going any faster than it used to
But my love is stronger than ever
So I think that the tighter you want to hold on
The quicker it all goes by
I can't stop them from growing up
I'm not sure that I would even want to
Each milestone that goes by is missed when it's gone
But replaced by something even more exciting
They say you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone
Except I know what I have and I don't want to lose it
So I make every day with these little girls a memory
And hope I have a couple more days until I wake up to my babies all grown.
