Freebie Friday: Safe Eyes Parental Control Software

Maybe I'm just old, but wow, how times have changed.  When I was a kid, the only computer I had access to was one of the original Apple computers at school-you know, the ones  you could play Oregon Trail on and that was about it?

My first experience with the internet was one of the first incarnations of dial up, and we used Prodigy and those old school America Online CD's you could get in the mail.  I didn't have an email address until 1998.

Things have definitely changed.  My 5 year old, who is still in Pre-K at a local preschool, is already learning computer skills.  She has her own "laptop" on which she "blogs".  I also allow her to use my PC under strict supervision, mainly for kids games and typing emails to our family.  Yes, my five year old emails.  Insane.

And that is just where the world is going.  I know it's in her best interest to be so computer savvy, because these skills are necessary for today's children.  I also know the day is going to come when she's going to want to do more online than play games at Nick Jr. and I'm not going to be able to hover over her every second.

So when I was approached by InternetSafety.com to review their Internet Safety software, Safe Eyes, I was definitely interested.  Considering that something crazy like 90% of the internet is comprised of adult content, and with the onset of cyberbullying, cyberstalkers and cyberpredators, every parent should be prepared.  No matter how involved and protective you are, it doesn't hurt to have a little backup.

InternetSafety.com has a multitude of top of the line safety products to choose from.  They offer Safe Eyes, which will protect up to three computers in the family home.  They also offer Safe Eyes Mobile for cell phones and handheld devices, and Safe Eyes Business, designed to protect a multitude of computers at work, church, or school.  I was allowed to test the original Safe Eyes for home use.

Some of the stand out features of Safe Eyes includes:
-Different profiles for different users.  You can set these up on various computers or profiles within the computer, so each user can have their own set of standards.  You can keep the kids out of anything adult, Mom out of the online shopping, and Dad out of the car parts forums.  Not that I would know anything about that.
-Activity Reports-you can get a detailed list of exactly what each user has been up to, so you know if there are any areas of concern or any conversations that need to be had.
-Extremely Versatile-Not only does Safe Eyes monitor internet browsing, it also protects social media, online TV streaming, video downloads, iTunes downloads, gaming, email content, and instant messaging.  It protects every single facet of the internet experience.
-Time Limits-If your children have access to a PC when you can't be there, you can set up time limits and schedules.
-24/7 Technical Support

I was very pleased with the performance of Safe Eyes.  I had it downloaded and set up with different profiles within a half an hour.  It performed quickly and did not bog down my computer and/or downloads.  I was not able to get around any of the limits I set up, and when I reached the 30 minute time limit I set my access to the internet was shut off.  Extremely user friendly-you don't have to be an internet whiz to use this software.
