One thing that has consistently amazed me about motherhood is how you can raise two children the same, but they still turn out so completely different.
I suppose it is somewhat inaccurate to say "raise them exactly the same." While I try, and fairly well succeed in being fair and equal to both of them, I don't think it is humanly possible to parent two children the exact same, because, they are indeed different little people. It's the nature vs. nurture argument...you can nurture as equally as possible, but the nature in every beast is unique.
My mom always used to tell me I was her practice kid. That you screw everything up with the first one, then figure out the "right way" to parent by the time you get to your subsequent children. I used to get miffed when she would say that, but now? I totally get it. Sorry, Curly Haired One...you were totally my practice kid. My bad.
So, I've done my best to relatively raise them in the same manner. Yet, they are as different as night and day. Sure, they have some of the same traits...they love all things pink, sparkly, and princess related. They like to wear matching outfits,
And they both definitely like to snuggle and fall asleep on their daddy.
But that, my friends, is where the similarities end.
The Curly Haired One, well, has curly blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She is very, um, filled out (let's just say that I'm screwed when she gets older. She is going to be tall, blonde, and round in all the right places. Shit.) She is bubbly, friendly, not shy or afraid of anything, and one of the kindest, brightest, smartest kids I know. She also loves to pose:
The Little One, is, well, little. She is also very tall, but stick thin. She is wearing a 12 month size t-shirt today. I am not kidding. She insisted, it actually fit, not worth the argument. She has long, straight, light brown hair and hazel eyes. The Little One is also a happy girl, but not as friendly as her sister. While CHO would rather die than hurt another's feelings, Little One has no qualms with kicking your ass if things aren't going her way. Sigh. She is also very smart, but not in the book sense like her sister. She is definitely more talented physically than academically...this kid is going to be a sports star for sure. And she does not like to pose.
And I would not have it any other way. I love the dichotomy between the two. After all, it would be very boring to have two kids that were carbon copies of each other. Let's just say, they definitely keep me on my toes. As long as they keep letting me put them in matching outfits, count me in.
