Violence Unsilenced is an amazing, groundbreaking blog. It gives victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse power by allowing them to speak out about the abuse they have suffered. The power of abusers lies in the secrets they force their victims to keep through shame and threats. By revealing those secrets and speaking out about how they have suffered, victims are no longer victims-they are advocates for themselves and others suffering. They remove the power their abusers hold over them and inspire others to do the same. I am so overwhelmingly touched by the bravery and eloquence of these women that I'm afraid my words aren't doing them much justice, but I had to say something.
Today, Violence Unsilenced, the brainchild of the remarkable Maggie Damnit, celebrates it's 1st birthday. One year of empowering the wounded, 52 weeks of removing the silence that allows the violence to continue, 365 days of turning victims into survivors.
Please visit Violence Unsilenced today. You can support these brave women and men by reading, by understanding, by caring, by leaving supporting comments. And if you are so inspired, you can also submit a story of your own-you do not need a blog to do this.
Thank you for unsilencing the violence.
